The homeless face many challenges, including having to manage personal and / or systemic burdens while navigating often harsh urban environments. The Mobile Sanctuary is a means towards mitigating some of those challenges by providing a truly welcoming and supportive environment conceptualized to meet the individualized needs of those on the streets, within an architectural experience designed to help promote centering and contain the self. The Mobile Sanctuary also presents a “culture jam” opportunity wherein the introduction of a novel structure into the landscape can provoke dialog about homelessness, thus helping to dispel ignorance, challenge assumptions, and re-frame status quo paradigms.
The Mobile Sanctuary Project will be run primarily by and for those who are experiencing (or have experienced) homelessness. Proceeds will go to them and those most in need in the community.
